Reiseplanung Teil 1 - Travelroute Part 1

Ich hatte euch im ersten Blogpost versprochen, mal zu erzählen, wo ich überhaupt lang fahre. Dies will ich hiermit nachholen.

In my first blogpost I promised to tell, where I am going to ride my way to the south. With this I will fulfill my promise.

Die Reise wird grob aus 4 Teilstücken bestehen, was im Kern den klimatischen Bedingungen geschuldet ist. Würde ich direkt von Kanada nach Südchile fahren, würden mir Hitze (Mexiko), Regen (Regenzeit in Mittelamerika) und Kälte (Patagonien) einen Strich durch die Rechnung machen.

The journey will consist of roughly 4 Parts, that are due to the weather and climatic conditions. If I wanted to drive directly from Canada to South Chile I would die of heat (Mexico), drown in the rain (Caribbean) or freeze (Patagonia).

Part 1 West Coast US - Teil 1 Westküste der USA

Der erste Teil beginnt in Vancouver (Kanada), von wo aus ich durch die sehr ländlichen Regionen im Nordosten der USA fahren werde. Danach geht es Pazifikküste entlang durch Städte und Städtchen wie Astoria, Portland, Santa Cruz, San Francisco und Los Angeles. Ich freue mich auf Naturschutzparks, Strände und alles was euch noch so zum Südwesten der USA einfällt ;) 3200 km in etwa 1,5 Monaten

The first part starts in Vancouver (Canada). I will drive south trough the rural regions in the north east of the US. Afterwards I join the pacific coast and will visit some nice cities like Astoria, Portland, Santa Cruz, San Francisco und Los Angeles and everything in between. Like national parks, beaches and everything else that comes to your mind, when you think of the south west of the US. ;) 3200 km in about 1,5 month

Part 2 The other West Coast - Teil 2 Die andere Westküste

Der zweite Teil beginnt in Bogota, wohin ich von Los Angeles aus hinfliegen werde. Von dort geht es nach Medellín, wo ich mit ein paar Freunden eine Route durch Kolumbien finden will, die ich einigermaßen gefahrenfrei fahren kann. Im Zweifel wirds halt der Bus. Beim Grenzübertritt in Ipiales nach Ecuador sollte ich 4.400 km auf dem Tacho haben. In Ecuador durchquere ich Quito, wobei ich mehrere 1000 Meter rauf und runter fahren darf und den Cayambe, einen Vulkan der gleichzeitig den höchsten Punkt am Äquator darstellt. Über die Straße der Vulkane geht es durchs Hochland zum Grenzübergang nach Peru. Stand: 5.540 km. In Peru folge ich der Küstenstraße bis Lima, wobei ich danach ins Hinterland nach Cusco fahre, wo mich der höchste Pass der Reise auf 4100 Metern und einer der Höhepunkte, Machu Picchu, erwarten. Stand: 7.790 Kilometer.

Von Cusco geht es am Titicacasee vorbei nach Bolivien mit seiner Hauptstadt La Paz. Stand: 8.610 km. Von hier aus geht es an der Pazifikküste entlang bis Santiago de Chile auf Kilometer 11.415. Vorbei an vielen kleinen Orten, bei denen ich die Häuser in Google Maps einzeln zählen konnte, zum südlichsten Punkt meiner Reise und zur südlichsten Stadt der Welt Ushuaia nach insgesamt 16.220 Kilometern. Geht es an der Atlantikküste entlang nach Buenos Aires, wobei die fast 4000 km der Reise ein Puffer sind, falls es woanders nicht so läuft wie geplant oder ich die Reise etwas langsamer genießen möchte. Damit ist, bis auf das kleine Stück nach Montevideo (Kilometer 20.320) der zweite Teil meiner Reise vorbei. Es fehlen noch der Part durch Mittelamerika (Teil 3) und Kuba (Teil 4), die sich einen eigenen Blogeintrag verdient haben.

The second Part starts in Bogota, where I will get by plane. After arriving there the first destination is Medellín to meet some friends. With them I try to get a proper and safe route trough colombia, either in the north to Cartagena or directly into the south to the ecuadorian border. By then I traveled 4200 km. I cross Ecuador trough Quito, the equator and the streets of vulcanos, where I have to cross the mountainous highland. I´m so looking forward this. When arriving at the border of Peru I should have traveled 5540 km. I follow the coast route in Peru till Lima, where I take a turn left into the highlands to get to Cusco. On this trip there will be the highest point of my journey on 4100 meter, but the reward will be the Machu Pichu. This is km 7790.

From Cusco I travel over the Titicacalake to Bolivia, were I will visit the capital La Paz. Stand: 8610 km. Suffering from thin air (hopefully one last time) I rejoin the pacific coast road till I reach Santiago de Chile on km 11415. The next settlements are not that well known, maybe because most of them only consist of a few houses, until I arrive at Ushuaia, the most southern town in the world after 16220 km. After leaving there I will head north and travel along the Atlantic Coast to get to Buenos Aires which is merely 3900 km away. Maybe I skip this part and travel by bus, depending on the weather or my time. If I want to take it a little bit slower I can save up here. After the last 200 km to Montevideo the second part is over. The last two parts are the Central America and Cuba, which earn another blog entry.
